Anticipation--On the Threshold
Subthemes include: Roles and Responsibilities, Choices and Commitments, Perspectives and Passages, Values and Goals.

Introduction

As a young adult, you probably enjoy the fullness of life and the satisfaction of living everyday. You may be involved in a variety of activities in and out of school. You may dance, play sports, train animals, travel, read, compose poetry or create websites, to name only a few activities.

The present is a time of new beginnings and taking responsibility. Daily life provides you with many opportunities to anticipate, plan for and make decisions about your future directions, your values, your relationships and your dreams. It is also a time to plan for and anticipate your future. As a student, you may speculate about what roles in society or what profession you may assume as an adult. Looking toward your own hopes for the future may give you a hint of what is to come. Anticipation is the guiding theme for the remainder of English Language Arts 20.

You will have the opportunity to examine some of the roles and responsibilities that young people may choose or have thrust upon them.
